Frank Robinson walloped 37 home runs for the team, while Gene Freese, Vada Pinson, Wally Post and Gordy Coleman each added 20 or more also. Frank Robinson accounted for 124 RBI. Vada Pinson led batters with significant playing time by hitting .343. Joey Jay paced the squad with 21 wins, and Jim O'Toole and Bob Purkey also contributed 15 or more victories also Jim O'Toole recorded a 3.10 ERA, best among regularly-used pitchers.

Fred Hutchinson coached the team. The 1961 Cincinnati Reds won the League Championship Series.
